Artist Biography: Nancy Hagin
(American, b. 1940) is a contemporary realist painter known for her meticulously composed interiors and psychologically charged domestic scenes. Born in New York, she studied at the Philadelphia College of Art and later in New York, developing a highly refined, observational style. Emerging in the late 1960s and 1970s, Hagin became associated with a generation of artists who returned to representational painting amid the dominance of abstraction.
Her work often depicts elegant yet tense interior spaces—carefully rendered rooms, furnishings, and figures that suggest subtle emotional narratives beneath their polished surfaces. Through precise draftsmanship and controlled color, Hagin explores themes of perception, social ritual, and the quiet complexities of modern life. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally and are held in public and private collections, reflecting her sustained contribution to contemporary American realism.
