“Eve in the Garden of Eden” Cameo Glass Vase, Late 19th Century
Cobalt blue glass overlaid in opaque white and exquisitely wheel-carved in high relief inspired by Milton’s “Paradise Lost”, depicting Eve standing amid lush tropical foliage with finely rendered ferns, palms, and groundcover, the sculptural carving displays the characteristic depth, refinement, and classical elegance associated with John Northwood’s celebrated cameo work for Stevens & Williams, flared rim and foot with applied white accents
Height 9 inches
Exhibition piece, possibly exhibited at the World’s Fair (Exposition Universelle), Paris, 1878, together with Northwood’s other major Paradise Lost–themed cameo vase, now in the Chrysler Museum of Art.

overall good condition, small bubble to glass in neck, bottom with some scuffs
