Jacobus Gerritsen Strijcker Strycker 1619-1687 oil on oak panel 17th century portrait bust of Claes Thyssen b. 1588-1658, written on reverse Claes Thyssen, New Amsterdam, married April 5, 1655 Agnietje Strycker sister of Jacobus. 25 1/2 x 20 This is an extremely rare painting by Jacobus Strijcker Strycker, prior to this painting there have been only four paintings known to be painted by the artist. These paintings include 1 Self Portrait which is still owned by the descendants of Jacobus Strijcker Strycker and is currently being exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2 Portrait of Jan Strycker brother of artist and 3 Portrait of Adriaen van der Donck both in private collections and have never been offered for sale, and 4 Portrait of Governor Peter Stuyvensant Currently at the New York Historical Society. It has been said that Jacobus Strycker studied with one of the pupils of Rembrandt possibly Backer, Bol or Flinck.
