“Carved Walnut Figure of Christ the Redeemer”
A carved walnut Renaissance figure of Christ the Redeemer, shown standing with outstretched right arm and the left arm drawn slightly inward, his body turned gently at the waist and draped in deeply carved, naturalistic folds characteristic of the Franconian school. The figure displays a sensitively modeled face with downcast eyes and flowing hair, and retains an unpainted, warm walnut surface typical of early 16th-century South German sculpture.
