Chinoiserie Japanned Slant-Front Desk

A fine japanned slant-front desk, the fall front decorated with gilt landscapes, figures, pavilions, and birds within a scrolling border, opening to a fitted interior with small drawers and pigeonholes, all further decorated with gilt floral motifs on a black ground, and including a hidden well. The case with long drawer above a shaped apron, raised on cabriole legs.

Condition: Left side sun-dried with significant paint loss; scattered wear, abrasions, and age cracks to japanning; expected surface wear from use.
