A finely carved half-hull ship model, mounted on a painted backboard with gilt border, inscribed “For Boston Tow Boat Co. / Wm. Humphrey Treas.” The hull in varnished hardwood with molded sheer and carved stem, presented as a company display or executive piece. Boston Tow Boat Co. was a prominent operator of tug and tow vessels in Boston Harbor during the late 19th century.
