The composition depicts a sweeping mountain landscape with a placid lake in the middle distance, flanked by grassy foreground and rugged cliffs rising beyond. Soft atmospheric effects and a restrained palette convey depth and scale. DuMond was associated with the Lyme Art Colony and American Impressionism, and was married to fellow artist Frank Vincent DuMond.
