The composition depicts a lighthouse set atop a rocky coastal promontory overlooking the sea, with waves breaking along the shoreline and low vegetation in the foreground. DuMond was associated with the Lyme Art Colony and American Impressionism, and was married to fellow artist Frank Vincent DuMond.
