A large bronze mortar with pestle, the rim inscribed “WISSEMS 1668” flanked by fleur-de-lis devices, the body decorated in relief with scrolling foliage. Accompanied by a framed letter stating that this example is the oldest known mortar connected with medicine and pharmacy.
