Polychrome Limewood Group of the Virgin and Child, South German circa 1520
A carved and polychrome limewood figure of the crowned Virgin, shown standing and looking slightly downward, her long tresses falling over her shoulders. Her robe is carved in deeply cut V-shaped folds, and she holds the Christ Child in both hands. The Child holds an orb, The sculpture retains traces of original and later polychromy; over-painted in the 19th century.
