each with a shaped crest rail centered by a carved shell above a vasiform splat with falling foliate carving, the serpentine stiles flanking a shaped seat with slip upholstery, raised on cabriole legs terminating in ball-and-claw front feet, rich walnut figuring with expected wear; underside with painted inscription reading “Queen Anne walnut 1715–20 Geo. I, bought of T. Charbonnier by Blanche and Elon Hooker, Lynmouth, from a private house near West Somerset, July 1911.”
