Large folio volume containing 85 finely hand-colored engravings (on 81 plates) of political and social caricatures by James Gillray, widely regarded as the most important British caricaturist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The work includes political satires, social commentary, theatrical and musical scenes, skating subjects, and numerous caricatures of Napoleon and contemporary figures, executed in aquatint and line engraving with hand coloring.
All lots are sold “AS IS.” Condition reports are available by request and answered in the order received starting the week of the sale.
