Attributed to the Graux-Marly Foundry, Paris Circa 1870
Large parcel-gilt and patinated bronze figure of a Nubian water-bearer, exquisitely cast and richly detailed. The figure stands in relaxed contrapposto, her weight shifted subtly to one leg, with her right arm raised to stabilize a gilt amphora resting on her shoulder. Her head tilts gently downward, creating a graceful, introspective pose. Rendered with fine naturalism, the patinated flesh contrasts with the bright parcel-gilt drapery of her wrap skirt and sash, worked in deeply folded, fluid modeling
Height of bronze 53 1⁄2 inches, Total height 79 inches
