Portrait of Four Children from the Family of Davy Crockett (American 1786-1836)
A large folk portrait of Davy Crockett’s niece and nephews in a landscape (most likely the children of Davy’s brother Theodore Crockett) a girl with bonnet, a toddler in dark dress, and two boys in matching sailor-style outfits and caps, the youngest boy identified as David Theodore Crockett (1835-1903) along with pentimento sketch of a dog, Painted with the flat modeling, strong outlines, and direct gazes characteristic of Connecticut folk portraiture.

Condition: Darkened varnish, craquelure, surface soiling, scattered abrasions; frame with wear.
